Trauma In The Body

There are a lot of articles about trauma. They can be informative and helpful. They can also be overwhelming. It is good to find one that is short and provides some hope. This article, talks about Trauma in the Body. I invite you to take a look.

The author of the article says, Like a virus in our encoding system, unprocessed traumatic memories can become sticking points that cause our mental and physical processes to malfunction.  So the trauma or experience that causes Post Traumatic Stress can stay with you. The feelings and emotions associated with it can stay with you.

The article also sites the book, The Body Keeps the Score, by Bessel Van der Kolk. This book is very helpful in understanding the ways a psychiatrist sees how people hold on to trauma in their minds and bodies. If you do want to read it, I suggest reading it with someone. If you have a mental health professional in your life, perhaps they will read it with you.

This picture is an interpretation of how trauma is stored in the body.
