Learning More About PMDD

I have recently been inspired by a new podcast to learn more about PMDD. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder impacts some of the clients that I work with. The symptoms and a description are included in this link. The symptoms are: irritability, depression, hopelessness, depression, tension, anxiety, lack of focus or concentration, sleep challenges, and feeling overwhelmed or out of control.  These symptoms occur during the last week of the luteal phase.

The Luteal Phase

The luteal phase of the menstrual cycle is preparing the uterus in case it will get an embryo. If that does not occur, the lining of the uterus begins to shed. Check out more information here. We refer to this as menstruation, moon time, a visit from Aunt Flo, Crimson Tide, The Red Badge of Courage and Hell Week to name a few. I am not a huge fan of these nicknames because I think it encourages the stigma and fear we have around discussing it.

Learning and Sharing about PMDD

The link to the podcast is http://pmdddiaries.libsyn.com/website

if you are able to give it a listen, it might help you learn more and share more if you experience or know someone that experiences Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. This can make folks feel less isolated and maybe learn something about how other experience and deal with it.
