Aging and Hormones

Aging and hormones is a tricky topic. Just when you think you have figured out how hormones are impacting your life, something will change. Aging is happening every day. Some say we are lucky to age.  Hormones are an important part of our life journey.

From Hormones.org:

Hormones are chemical messengers in the body that travel in the blood to organs and tissues signaling them to do the work they were designed to do. They can affect many different processes in the body, including reproduction, sexual function, metabolism, growth and development, and even mood. Men and women both have hormones, and hormone levels change and develop as the individual grows and ages.

Aging and Mental Health

Aging impacts our health in many ways. Health includes many things, physical, mental, emotional and social well being is important. We seem to talk about it all of the time. Sometimes aging can impact this. Sometimes we don’t think about aging at all. Mental and emotional health can be impacted by the many transitions in our lives. A birthday can be a transition.

Does Stress Impact Hormones?

The Mayo Clinic says that “stress, left un-managed, can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, among other things.” The narrative around aging can be stressful too. If we can understand how our bodies and minds will change, we may feel experience less fear about the changes. It is okay to ask questions and look to others for advice and guidance. People have such different experiences, you may not get an answer that works for you, but it may make you feel less alone.
