Mental Health Month
May is Mental Health Month. I appreciate that important issues get a month, but we all know, every month is Mental Health Month. So many things change in May. The weather is unpredictable. The sun is warming, the birds are chirping and May’s full Moon, the Full Flower Moon, occurs on the 29th. It is an opportunity to see how these things impact our mental health. Long summer days are here.
May and Mental Health
May is the start of summer and can be exciting but also a challenge. Some folks want to be outside more when the sun is warm, but some feel they “should” be doing more. Barbecuing, swimming, hiking and biking are a few activities. Do what you want and what feels right to you. Spending time in the shade reading is rejuvenating too. Taking a nap is a respectable activity.
Mental Health and the Fear of Missing Out
Mental Health is impacted by the fear of missing out. I suspect we all feel we are missing out sometimes, but we have to do what is right for ourselves. Maybe attending a concert with thousands of others sounds good, but could create sensory overload for some people. Finding what you need can be your priority. You will miss out on some activities, which may not be a bad thing.
