Period

Is it the end of a sentence? Sometimes it is. It is not the end.  But for a lot of people the bleeding is not the end,  the menstrual cycle, is just that. It repeats every 28 days. That is a month. So people that menstruate think about this for many days. Or not at all.

Stages

Like the Stages of Grief, people that menstruate go through stages that can impact them physically and emotionally. The menstrual cycle occurs due to the rise and fall of hormones. Menstruation is having your period, when blood and tissue come out of your vagina. This link to Planned Parenthood, explains in detail what the menstrual cycle is.

Period and Stages of Grief

I compare the menstrual cycle to the Stages of Grief, because like the Stages of Grief, the menstrual cycle impacts folks in many different ways at different times. For some, it is predictable, but for others not at all. An estimated 85 percent of women experience at least one symptom of PMS per month, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists estimates. This video, may or may not resonate for you, but it is interesting to see the process.

Relief?

The words, balanced diet, are mentioned over and over when discussing the menstrual cycle. Sometimes we forget what it means.  Each individual has to determine what that means for them. If we do not feel good, food choices can be extra challenging. Remember we are working towards balance and some days it is easier than others.
